Get to know the family behind Harvest The Fleurieu
Harvest The Fleurieu is very much a family business with the entire Sherry family involved, and with over 30 years in the strawberry game owners Brenton and Vanessa Sherry are slowly passing the gauntlet onto their three children. Growing up in and around the strawberry patch, Adam, Megan and Ryan are putting everything into ensuring the future of this small family business. Quality over quantity has always been their family motto and this shines through in all of their delicious produce.
The family began with Kuitpo Forest Strawberries in 1999, servicing the Adelaide Produce Market and interstate markets as well as a faithful following at the Willunga Farmers Market and Adelaide Farmers Market. They started the pick your own strawberry patch at Mount Compass in 2012 and sold strawberries out of their little caravan but in 2016 with the dream of showcasing more of the wonderful produce available around the Fleurieu Peninsula, they built their Market Hall + Cafe which is an ever growing hub for all things local and delicious.
Not only is Harvest the Fleurieu a market hall full of delicious produce, they also make all of their own bakery products including but not limited to bread, pasties, pies, sausage rolls, fruit tarts, cakes and desserts. Vanessa, Yvonne and Megan are the resident coeliac team that ensure there is always a range of gluten free products that also includes three different types of fresh bread, pastries and treats.
HTF works hard to ensure every part of the plant gets used, so also produces all of their own range of jams, chutneys and crazy creations. A prime example of this is the local Mount Compass Martin Distillation Company that uses HTF strawberries and blackberries to create their delicious Berry Gin, HTF then turn the left-over pulp into a jam for all of the Gin lovers out there.
Dependent on the season and market mix the team bring a whole assortment of quality products and produce to the Willunga and Showgrounds farmers markets. A market favourite is the approximately two and a half kilo boxes of second grade strawberries that are perfect for eating straight away, cutting up for jam/ smoothies or a fan favourite is to freeze them down for a delicious daiquiri.
While sharing their passion for the Fleurieu, the Sherry family aim is to always provide fresh local produce and of course the tastiest strawberries around and hope to continue this journey with their growing family for many years to come.
