Sustainability
At Harvest The Fleurieu we are committed to sustainable strawberry farming practices that protect the environment and ensure the long-term health of our farm. We use a variety of methods to reduce our environmental impact.
At Harvest the Fleurieu, not only are we committed to growing high quality produce, but we are also on a mission to reduce our carbon footprint and integrate more sustainable farming practises. We are always looking into new technology and work with professionals within the industry to ensure we are using the best, most effective & environmentally friendly farming methods.
Integrated pest management (IPM) is an environmentally sensitive way of managing pests which is one of the biggest challenges we face on our farm, in the strawberry patch especially. This process involves releasing predator, or beneficial, bugs into the crop to eat the larva of the invasive, pest bugs that would otherwise damage the flower or fruit of our crops. By spreading these “good bugs” throughout our season we are significantly reducing the need to use pesticides, while promoting safe & sustainable crop protection.
Bugs for bugs is one of Australia’s leading suppliers of biological control agents and has been providing crop protection solution and bio-control organisms for over 30 years.
